Every month, the teachers at CanKids decide upon a
Topic of The Month, and the children are made to do several educational activities related to that topic so as to better
their understanding of the same.
The topic for the first week was ‘Then and Now’. The children made steam engines
on cardboards,
cut them out and painted them. From this activity, they learnt about the modes of transport
which existed in the olden times, like bullock carts, horse carriages etc. and how the
transportation system has developed since then.
In the second week, the topic was Land Transport. They created a model of a fire truck.
The kids were also taught about the traffic lights and how to adhere to traffic rules.
They were made to understand the significance of each of the three colours.
The third week involved activities based on Water Transport. Under this topic, the children
were made a boat by tearing and pasting, and also used ice cream sticks and coloured pieces
of paper to make different kinds of boats.
The last week included activities based on Air transport. The children made cut outs of
aeroplanes, helicopters, parachutes. They learnt how the plane operates and about its
capacity in comparison to a helicopter.
